Anna Fuchs - training, coaching and inter- and transcultural communication

Anna Fuchs

Psychologist, Learning Architect and Understanding-Optimist

At home in both Barcelona and Hamburg, I work with people, teams and organisations at the intersection of communication psychology, international collaboration and organisational learning.

Workshops & Training Programmes

Transfer, transfer, transfer. The real measure of any learning intervention is how well participants can carry what they have learned into their everyday work. That happens best when people have time - across training programmes or workshop series - to try out new ideas, gather experience and gradually translate new insights into practice. Self-study materials such as workbooks play an important role, inviting participants to experiment with the content between modules rather than leaving it behind in the training room. That way, a single workshop or a development programme becomes an ongoing learning process - one that continues, deepens and consolidates learning.

Peer Coaching & Case Clinics

The trained eye of people who know the field, the exchange with peers facing similar challenges, fresh perspectives from a whole group on your own situation - that's exactly what Peer Coaching and Case Clinics are designed for. In the words of one participating manager: «Peer Coaching hurts. And helps.»

Peer Coaching & Case Clinics
Mentoring & Reverse Mentoring

No other format brings the uncomfortable but necessary conversations to the table the way this one does. When traditional mentoring roles are swapped in reverse mentoring - and juniors become mentors to seniors - profound effects emerge along the way: knowledge transfer, the strengthening of a growth mindset, experiences of self-efficacy, shifts in perspective, relationship-building, belonging - you name it.

Coaching

Some challenges keep you up at night. Whether you're facing a leadership dilemma, a career transition or a difficult relationship at work, together we untangle complexity, explore different perspectives and find solutions that feel true to you while also fitting the reality of your situation.

Talks & Keynotes

From a 45-minute Barcamp keynote to a virtual series for medical professionals or a Lunch & Learn for leaders - my talks bring fresh perspectives, practical tools and food for thought: lively, hands-on and always with an eye on everyday practice.

Doesn't Fit into a Box Projects

The most exciting projects often start with organisations knowing exactly what they want to achieve - but not yet which format will get them there. Coaching, training, mediation or team development don't quite fit. Time to think outside the box and, together, create a format that fits your challenge, your people and your organisation.

Anna Fuchs

Hi, I'm Anna...

As a Senior Trainer at the Schulz von Thun Institut (Germany's leading institute for communication psychology) and author of the book Transkulturelle Herausforderungen meistern, I help people communicate more clearly and effectively - with themselves and with others, including in situations where differences, uncertainty or hierarchy are part of the picture. At home we speak German, Spanish, Catalan and, now and then, English. There's always a stack of books on my nightstand, at least three of them open at once. New perspectives, thought-provoking questions and unexpected connections pull me in - and find their way straight into my work. When my own standards get the better of me, I try to remember Maya Angelou's wise words: «Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better».

Focus Areas

The questions that have fascinated me for years today go by the term Future Skills. Future Skills - as defined, for example, by the Stifterverband - describe the key competencies needed in a changing world: communication, collaboration and transformation competences. Exactly the terrain I've been moving in for many years now.

Dialogue and mutual understanding - even when perspectives are far apart

Psychological safety, trust and belonging

Building a constructive us - and enabling collaboration across nationalities, generations, professional backgrounds and organisational levels

Staying able to act, even in unfamiliar environments or changing work contexts

Perspective shifts - and what we can learn from other people and cultures

Self-leadership and personal development

Clients

My clients include international companies such as Stahl and Siemens, as well as the European Central Bank.

Social and educational institutions such as the Asociación de trabajadores sociales de Cataluña, the IKF - Institute for Communication & Leadership, Lucerne, the University of Tübingen and the EAE Business School, Barcelona.

Cultural institutes with an international presence, as well as organisations in international development cooperation, among them the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

My Formats

Workshops, Peer Coaching, Reverse Mentoring, Coaching, talks, large-group formats and doesn't-fit-into-a-box projects - for individuals, teams and organisations.

How I work

Psychologically grounded models. Communication psychology, including the work of Friedemann Schulz von Thun. Cultural theory. Real-life examples. Lived international experience. Space for reflection. And the question: what can participants start trying out next Monday?

In person, online or hybrid. In German, English or Spanish.

After a strategy coaching with Anna, I finally took the step of turning my own idea into reality. We first met during a training programme in communication psychology, and I still use many of the models and ideas she introduced there in my own workshops and talks today. In our coaching sessions, Anna helped me further develop my concept, but even more importantly, she helped me turn my idea into reality: communication training for tax advisory firms. Today, we even facilitate Peer Coaching sessions together for tax advisors. What stands out about Anna is how naturally she moves between the roles of trainer, coach and colleague. Clear, warm and highly professional, she embodies the very communication skills she teaches.
